Diamonds are going to be the ultimate semiconductor of the future, able to withstand heat and pressure that would melt silicon. (200 degrees Fahrenheit is the melting point for silicon) Japan and Europe are already in a race to produce the first diamond chip, with Japan allocating $8 Million a year towards the goal.
Wired Magazine has written a fascination, if not long, article on the topic of the synthetic diamond industry, espionage and the future of computing utilizing diamond.
Give it a read.
